BPK RI Member Haerul Saleh Dies in Fire in Jakarta

A member of Indonesia’s Supreme Audit Agency (BPK RI), Haerul Saleh, became a fatality in a house fire in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta, this morning. The cause of the fire is not yet known. According to detikNews, Saleh’s death was confirmed by House of Representatives Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman. Habiburokhman also reminisced about the victim’s time during Gerindra party cadre training. “Yes. I am very shocked and deeply saddened. He was one of my close friends. Before the 2014 election, we shared a room during Gerindra cadre training. He was very kind, always asking what he could do to help me. He was a smart young man who passed away at just 43 years old,” he said when asked for confirmation about the news of Haerul Saleh’s death due to the fire, on Friday (8/5/2026). Habiburokhman prayed for the deceased to be forgiven his sins. He hoped the deceased would receive the best place by Allah’s side. “We pray that he meets a good end, all his sins are forgiven, his deeds and worship are accepted, and he receives the best place by Allah SWT’s side,” said Habiburokhman. It is known that Haerul Saleh was a Gerindra cadre. The late Saleh was a House of Representatives member before being elected as a BPK RI member. Jakarta Fire Department stated that the burned house was located at Jalan Teratai Blok G8 RT 03 RW 02, Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta. The fire was reported by residents at 07:53 WIB. “One resident victim died. Data is still under investigation,” said an official from the Command Center of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat). The fire was extinguished by 48 personnel with 12 fire trucks. The extinguishing operation was declared complete at 08:49 WIB.
