BPK Prepares for Role as UN BoA Member 2026-2032
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Supreme Audit Institution of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI) is organising an introductory conference for the United Nations Board of Auditors (UN BoA) in Bali from 20 to 27 April 2026 as part of preparations to fulfil its role as a UN BoA member for the period 2026-2032.
This conference represents an important stage in Indonesia’s preparations to contribute to global accountability and multilateral relations.
Deputy Chairman of BPK Budi Prijono shared experiences regarding audits at the United Nations (UN).
“Audits of UN entities, particularly peacekeeping missions and support missions, are conducted in a complex and multidimensional environment with diverse mandates, operational risks, and cross-cultural dynamics,” he stated at the conference, quoted from an official BPK statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He also emphasised that effective UN audits require not only strong technical expertise but also adaptability, sound professional judgement, cultural awareness, and strict adherence to UN regulations, given that BPK auditors represent both the institution and Indonesia on the international stage.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir extended congratulations to BPK on its election as a UN BoA member, describing it as a historic achievement for both the institution and Indonesia.
He affirmed that Indonesia’s membership reflects the strong international trust in the institution’s credibility and bolsters Indonesia’s strategic position within the multilateral system.
“In the midst of growing demands for reform at the United Nations, the UN BoA plays an important role not only in financial oversight but also in enhancing performance, efficiency, and integrity to maintain the organisation’s credibility,” Arrmanatha said.
The conference is attended by officials from BPK and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Director General, Special Staff from BPK, the Secretary of the Directorate General for Multilateral Cooperation, as well as 102 international organisation auditors.
The series of activities will feature speakers from UN officials and members of the Audit Operations Committee (AOC) from the UN BoA to share insights on UN governance, international audit practices, and the operational realities of audits in the UN environment.
