BPK Member's Shouts Before His Death as House Catches Fire
A house in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta, experienced a fire. It was later discovered that the house belonged to Haerul Saleh, a member of the Financial Audit Board (BPK). The fire incident occurred on Friday (8/5/2026) at 07:53 WIB. Haerul Saleh died in the fire incident. Residents who noticed Haerul Saleh’s house on fire reported it to the fire department (damkar). At that time, smoke was visible rising from the roof of the house. “Based on information from the local RT, black smoke was seen billowing from the third floor of the burning house,” said the Head of Fire and Rescue Prevention (Gulkarmat) of South Jakarta, Asril Rizal. The local RT head then requested assistance from the fire department (damkar) to handle the fire. The fire is suspected to have originated from easily flammable chemical liquids. “The fire is suspected to have come from remnants of used thinner from house renovations,” he said. A total of 12 fire trucks (damkar) and 48 personnel were deployed to the location. The extinguishing process began at 08:07 WIB and the extinguishing operation was declared complete at 08:49 WIB. Haerul Saleh Shouted Residents who realised Haerul Saleh’s house was on fire then reported it to the fire department (damkar). At that time, smoke was seen billowing from the roof. A witness who is the house guard named Arpen said Haerul shouted from the upper floor of the house. Arpen said Haerul shouted fire at that time. “The gentleman shouted, shouted fire,” said Arpen at the location. At that time, Arpen was at the location and then panicked. He informed the residents and called the fire department. “We went up again and informed the residents here, immediately called damkar,” he explained. Arpen tried to go up to the upper floor to ensure no one was there. However, he said Haerul was still inside during the fire. “We went up, it turned out the gentleman was still inside,” he added. Fire on the Fourth Floor The fire first appeared on the fourth floor. The point was in the victim’s workspace. “So the information is that the fire was on the fourth floor,” said the Head of Public Relations of the South Jakarta Police, AKP Joko Adi, in Tanjung Barat, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (8/4/2026). At the time of the incident, Haerul was on the fourth floor. Haerul Saleh’s body was found dead during the fire in his workspace. “On the fourth floor, the information is the victim’s workspace,” he explained. After the incident, Haerul Saleh’s body was taken to the nearest hospital. Joko said Haerul Saleh’s body was taken to Pasar Minggu Hospital. “The victim was… after the incident, the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital. Yes (RS Pasar Minggu),” he affirmed. Police Process the Crime Scene The police conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) of Haerul Saleh’s house fire on the same day. The TKP processing was led by the South Jakarta Police Chief, Kombes I Putu Yuni Setiawan, along with the Inafis team and the National Police’s Puslabfor. Officers were seen carrying briefcases and wearing gloves when entering the TKP. The TKP processing was carried out to determine the exact cause of the fire. “Our plan is to jointly process the TKP of these four incidents so that we can find out what caused the fire,” said the Head of Public Relations of the South Jakarta Police, AKP Joko Adi.
