BPK Member Haerul Saleh Dies in House Fire in South Jakarta's Tanjung Barat
A fire broke out at a house in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta. Haerul Saleh, a member of the Republic of Indonesia’s Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), became a fatality in the incident.
“Yes. I am very shocked and deeply saddened. He was one of my close friends. Before the 2014 General Election, we shared a room during Gerindra cadre training. He was very kind, always asking what he could do to help me. He was a bright young man who passed away at just 43 years old,” said Habiburokhman, Chairman of DPR Commission III, when asked for confirmation about the news of Haerul Saleh’s death due to the fire, on Friday (8/5/2026).
He prayed for the deceased to be forgiven for his sins. He prayed that the deceased would receive the best place by Allah’s side.
“We pray that he meets a good end, that all his sins are forgiven, his deeds of worship are accepted, and he receives the best place by the side of Allah SWT,” Habiburokhman stated.
Haerul Saleh was previously a DPR member from Gerindra before being elected as a BPK RI member. He once served as a DPR member in Commission XI.
The Jakarta Fire Department stated that the burned house was located at Jalan Teratai Blok G8 RT 03 RW 02, Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta. The fire was reported by residents at 07:53 WIB.
“One resident victim died. Data is still under investigation,” said an official from the Command Center of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat).
A total of 12 fire trucks and 48 personnel were deployed to the location. The extinguishing process began at 08:07 WIB.
The fire is now extinguished, and the extinguishing operation was declared complete at 08:49 WIB. The cause and chronology of the fire are not yet known.
