The Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) has broken its silence on the recent arrest of five of its civil servants (ASN) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The BPK respects the legal process conducted by the KPK, stating it is part of a synergy and joint effort to eradicate corruption in Indonesia. “We respect the legal process being carried out by the KPK as part of a synergistic and joint effort to eradicate corruption in Indonesia,” the BPK stated in a press release on Thursday.

The BPK added that it will be cooperative and provide the necessary data and information support in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. “We will process all employees suspected of involvement in this incident in accordance with applicable provisions, through the Code of Ethics Honour Council (MKKE),” it clarified.

The BPK has systematically implemented various integrity management programmes developed by applying a zero-tolerance principle towards integrity violations committed by its employees. “We are also committed to continuously evaluating and strengthening integrity management on an ongoing basis,” the statement concluded.

Previously, the KPK had conducted a sting operation against five civil servants at the BPK on Wednesday. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the case has been elevated to the investigation stage and suspects will soon be named. The BPK civil servants were caught in connection with a bribery case implicating the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison. The KPK stated the operation relates to alleged audit bribery regarding a smart board procurement.
