BPK backs corruption proceedings against Central Java representative office chief
Indonesia’s Audit Board (BPK) has pledged full support for the investigation into suspected corruption involving an employee at its Central Java representative office. The case relates to the audit of Klaten regency’s 2025 financial statements.
“BPK respects and fully supports the ongoing legal process,” the board’s Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation, Teguh Widodo, said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, Central Java BPK Representative Office Head Ahmad Luthfi H. Rahmatullah and a private-sector individual as suspects following a sting operation. The KPK also named MAW, a private-sector figure from PT MWC, as a suspect in the case.
Hamenang is suspected of receiving bribes in four alleged corruption schemes and offering a bribe in another. Ahmad Luthfi is suspected of receiving a bribe in one alleged scheme, while MAW is suspected of paying a bribe in one strand of the case.
During the operation, the KPK seized about Rp1.2 billion in cash, as well as a blue barrel that Hamenang is suspected of having used to hold or store proceeds of corruption.
The KPK has identified five alleged corruption schemes: procurement of goods and services, licensing, collection fees, payments from regional government agencies or work units, and payments to BPK officials to influence an audit.
Teguh said BPK was co-operating and ready to provide law enforcement authorities with any necessary data and information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
“KPK law enforcement is part of our shared synergy and commitment to eradicating corruption in Indonesia,” he said.
Internally, BPK would take firm action and would not protect any employee found to have committed a violation, Teguh added. Staff allegedly involved will face proceedings before BPK’s Ethics Code Council as well as civil-service disciplinary proceedings, with sanctions imposed in accordance with the rules.
“BPK consistently upholds a zero-tolerance principle towards all forms of integrity violations and is committed to continuing to evaluate, tighten oversight and strengthen integrity management,” he said.
BPK provides public reporting channels for information about suspected breaches of its code of ethics, fraud or corruption by its employees. Reports can be submitted through its Whistleblowing System portal at wbs.bpk.go.id or its e-PPID service at e-ppid.bpk.go.id.
