BPK and ANAO Sharpen Public Sector Audit Strategy
The partnership has produced tangible achievements through a range of collaborative initiatives.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) and the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) continue to sharpen their public sector audit strategies, building on a partnership that has run for 20 years.
During the inaugural visit of Australian Auditor-General Caralee Mcliesh, BPK Chair Isma Yatun affirmed that two decades of BPK-ANAO synergy have transformed into a strategic collaboration that strengthens institutional capacity and supports the organisational development of both bodies.
“This partnership has produced various tangible achievements through diverse collaborative initiatives that reinforce institutional capacity, support organisational development, and promote mutual learning,” she said at the 2026 Senior Management Dialogue (SMD), according to an official statement issued in Jakarta on Monday.
Over the past 20 years, she added, the BPK-ANAO partnership has been realised through various programmes such as secondments, capacity development, technical assistance, and knowledge exchange. The collaboration has also yielded products that strengthen BPK’s audit methodology and organisational governance, including the Remote Audit Guidelines (2021), the Integrity Management Framework (2024), and the Draft Guidelines on Performance Report Audits (2026).
These achievements are seen as reflecting the evolution of BPK-ANAO cooperation from knowledge exchange into collaboration with tangible impact on institutional strengthening.
Beyond reflecting on past achievements, the 2026 SMD also served as a forum to discuss several strategic issues, including optimising the role of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) on the international stage, enhancing the impact of audit results and stakeholder engagement, the use of artificial intelligence in audits, and strengthening knowledge management.
As part of the series of events, the BPK Chair and the Australian Auditor-General also paid a courtesy visit to Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani. The meeting aimed to consolidate synergy between the SAIs and parliaments of both countries to promote good governance, public accountability, and more effective oversight of state financial management.
Entering the third decade of the partnership, BPK and ANAO reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation through innovative breakthroughs that support institutional capacity building and improve audit quality.
Grounded in a spirit of mutual learning and mutual reinforcement, both institutions are optimistic that the solid foundation they have built will continue to deliver broad benefits for both bodies whilst contributing significantly to strengthening accountability in the public sector.
