Jakarta — Indonesia’s Occupational Insurance Board (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) and Health Insurance Board (BPJS Kesehatan) are strengthening collaboration to optimise social security protection for workers, particularly in accelerating healthcare service coverage for workers experiencing workplace accidents and occupational diseases.

The Chief Executive of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, stated that the synergy between the two organisations represents a strategic step in ensuring workers receive comprehensive protection.

“This collaboration aligns with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s 3C strategy, which is to expand coverage, strengthen care, and enhance the credibility of occupational social security services,” Saiful said after meeting with BPJS Kesehatan Chief Executive Prihati Pujowaskito in Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March.

According to Saiful, the integration of service systems between the two organisations enables healthcare service coverage processes to be conducted more quickly while facilitating member verification and case management monitoring more accurately and transparently.

Saiful added that strengthening system interoperability with BPJS Kesehatan is an important component of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s service transformation, particularly in handling suspected workplace accident and occupational disease cases.

With an integrated system, workers facing occupational risks are expected to obtain medical services promptly without encountering complicated administrative processes.

He also emphasised that the strengthening of the claims mechanism for suspected workplace accident and occupational disease cases has been regulated through Government Regulation No. 49 of 2023, which designates BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as the primary guarantor in handling such cases.

Meanwhile, Prihati Pujowaskito stated that system interoperability between BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has been implemented to accelerate the handling of suspected workplace accident and occupational disease cases.

According to her, healthcare facilities can now obtain clarity on handling procedures through the utilisation of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s e-PLKK application, which has been integrated with BPJS Kesehatan’s system.

“With this integration, healthcare facilities can verify member data digitally so that the service coverage process becomes more certain and transparent,” she said.

Prihati acknowledged that in the field there remain workers and healthcare facilities experiencing confusion in handling suspected workplace accident or occupational disease cases. Therefore, the utilisation of the e-PLKK application is expected to accelerate healthcare service provision without having to wait for lengthy administrative processes.

During the meeting, both parties also discussed plans to update the memorandum of understanding regarding the handling of workplace accidents and occupational diseases, as well as plans for data alignment between institutions to improve compliance among social security members.

Furthermore, efforts to increase member compliance are also planned to involve the Directorate General of Taxation through collaborative steps going forward.

Prihati added that evaluation and refinement of system integration will continue to be conducted periodically to ensure the implementation of cooperation becomes increasingly optimal in the field.
