BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Promotes Heir Independence Through PEKA Programme

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the welfare of workers and their families, not only through social security protection but also by economically empowering the heirs of participants who have received benefits. This commitment is realised through the Economic Empowerment and Independence Programme for Beneficiaries (PEKA), implemented in the Kalimantan region. As a form of sustainable support, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan collaborated with the Balikpapan City Office of Cooperatives, SMEs and Industry (DKUKMP) and Bank BTN Balikpapan Branch as strategic partners to provide training, mentoring, and enhanced financial literacy and inclusion for the heirs of participants who have received benefits. The programme aims to help heirs rebuild economic independence following the risks experienced by their families. The PEKA programme is designed so that social security benefits not only serve as a temporary safety net for consumptive needs but also become a foundation for establishing productive enterprises that can grow into new sources of income. Through this initiative, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan affirms its role not merely as a social security provider but also as a driver of empowerment that delivers tangible impacts on family welfare. The training and mentoring activities were attended by 30 beneficiaries who are heirs in the Kalimantan region. The PEKA activities are designed as an initial step in building their readiness to develop independent and sustainable businesses. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Dedi Hardianto, welcomed the collaboration with DKUKMP and Bank BTN in supporting the strategic steps of the PEKA programme to make BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s programmes go ‘beyond protection’ for the families of beneficiary heirs. ‘We fully support the PEKA programme for beneficiary heirs by collaborating with DKUKMP and BTN. Our hope is that when claim funds are received by the heirs, they will also have gained skills, so that after a husband passes away and income is lost, the heirs can continue their lives with the entrepreneurship and financial management skills we provide, thereby sustaining the family economy,’ said Dedi. During the session, the Head of Bank BTN Balikpapan Branch, Bobby Chandra, provided education themed ‘Peaceful Retirement, Protected Money, Meaningful Life’. ‘We are ready to support the PEKA programme initiated by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to encourage heirs who have received benefits to manage their finances wisely. Starting from financial planning with proper management, so that the claim benefits received by the heirs can sustainably safeguard the family’s welfare,’ said Bobby. On the same occasion, the Head of Industrial Resource Technology at DKUKMP Balikpapan, Tonny Hartono, welcomed the PEKA programme for providing training to the heirs of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan beneficiaries. During the training, Tonny delivered material on Building a Resilient Entrepreneurial Mindset in the Digital Era. ‘In the digital era, building a business requires not only capital but also a resilient entrepreneurial mindset towards technological developments to see opportunities for developing a sustainable business,’ said Tonny. Through the PEKA Programme, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan hopes that the heirs receiving benefits can gain opportunities to grow and become economically empowered, so that the benefits of the employment social security programme are felt more comprehensively, not only as protection when facing occupational risks but also as a bridge towards a more independent, productive, and prosperous life.
