BPJS Ketenagakerjaan continues expanding social security protection for informal workers through community-based approaches. The organisation is collaborating with neighbourhood officials (RT/RW administrators) and religious community leaders to extend worker protection into the communities where people live and work.

The commitment was demonstrated through a symbolic presentation of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership cards to informal workers at Perumahan Eramas 2000 in East Jakarta. The event was conducted directly by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Chief Executive Saiful Hidayat, who also distributed death benefit claims of Rp42 million each to three beneficiaries of deceased members.

“Through this activity, we want to ensure that employment social security services are not only available at service offices, but also present directly in the community through an outreach approach so that more workers can be protected,” said Saiful in a written statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Saiful said the community approach is an important strategy because many informal workers are closely connected to their social environments, such as neighbours, traders, neighbourhood administrators, and other community groups.

“Often without realising it, people around us are still vulnerable and not yet protected by employment social security programmes. Therefore, worker protection can start from the closest environment through mutual reminders and invitations for more workers to be protected,” he explained.

He added that communities such as RT/RW neighbourhoods and activities in houses of worship, including mosques, are important nodes for reaching workers more widely.

“Through communities like mosques and RT/RW, we can build collective awareness that worker protection is a shared need. With this approach, we hope that more workers will understand the importance of employment social security,” Saiful added.

The death benefit distributed amounted to Rp42 million each to the families of the late Suswoyo from the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) in Duren Sawit District, the late Hadi Alamsyah, a neighbourhood administrator in Pondok Kelapa Village, and the late Ratna, who worked as a trader.

Saiful also urged workers to take advantage of government policy providing premium relief for non-wage earner participants.

“The government has provided 50 per cent premium relief for the Work Accident Guarantee and Death Guarantee programmes for non-wage worker participants through Government Regulation Number 50 of 2025. This opportunity is expected to be utilised by workers to obtain protection with affordable premiums that provide significant benefits,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Assistant for Economy and Development of East Jakarta City Government, Fauzi, appreciated BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s initiative in engaging community as a gateway to expanding worker protection.

Fauzi affirmed that East Jakarta City Government has a moral responsibility to protect its citizens in the future. He appreciated BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s community-based approach through mosques and neighbourhood environments.

“We hope this collaboration continues to expand so that more workers are protected and community welfare improves, and this can become a model for other areas,” Fauzi hoped.

Similarly, the Chairman of Al Akbar Mosque Management, Deden Edi Soetrisna, stated that mosque administrators encourage employment social security protection for community servants by including imams, caretakers, Quranic teachers, and RT and RW officials in the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme for non-wage workers.

This step is expected to inspire mosques to function not only as centres of worship, but also as social service centres for the community.

The event was attended by East Jakarta Mayor M. Anwar, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Supervisory Board Members Swartoko and Alif Noeriyanto Rahman, Director of Membership Agung Nugroho, Director of Services Trisna Sonjaya, Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Regional Office DKI Jakarta Deny Yuslian, and Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Jakarta Buaran Branch Office Muhammad Romdhoni. Community leaders, mosque administrators, and local RT and RW officials also participated in the event.
