BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and UIN Jakarta Forge Partnership to Protect Academic Community
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan continues to expand the reach of social security protection within the higher education sector. This strategic move was realised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, covering education, research, and community service related to employment social security programmes.
The signing was conducted directly by the Director of Human Capital and General Affairs of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Harjono Siswanto, alongside the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, at the UIN Jakarta Campus Building on Tuesday (30/6).
Harjono Siswanto explained that this collaboration serves as an important foundation for synergising social security programmes with the academic world. According to him, universities are strategic partners in instilling an understanding of workers’ rights from an early stage.
“Universities play a vital role in producing high-quality, work-ready human resources. We view campuses as partners to instil an understanding of worker protection through employment social security programmes,” said Harjono.
This partnership does not only focus on the administrative aspects of protection but also opens wide opportunities for the development of scientific knowledge. Both parties have agreed to collaborate on research, joint studies, and the development of employment social security curricula.
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has been committed to protecting its workers since November 2019.
Harjono emphasised the importance of protection for students engaged in off-campus activities, such as internships, research, or community service (KKN). He cited previous work-related accidents involving vocational school students in Ngabang and UGM students during academic duties as evidence that occupational risks can affect anyone.
“The presence of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan ensures that the state is present to provide protection when such risks occur. While compensation cannot replace a loss, it can alleviate the burden on the family,” he asserted.
The Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, welcomed this synergy positively. He noted the immense potential for collaboration given that UIN Jakarta possesses diverse faculties, ranging from health to science and technology.
“This partnership does not only cover lecturers and educational staff, but also opens opportunities for students and the entire academic community to benefit from protection and the strengthening of social security literacy,” concluded Prof. Asep.
