Efforts to strengthen social protection for workers in rural areas continue to be optimised through collaboration between the local government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

This was evident during the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Social Protection Optimisation activity held at Jogonalan Sub-district Office, Klaten on 11 March. The event was attended by Klaten Regional Head of Village Economic Empowerment (Dispermasdes) Wahyuni Sri Rahayu, Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Arimeita Wahyu Adi, and Sub-district Head Murdoko.

On the occasion, Dispermasdes Head Wahyuni Sri Rahayu presented death benefit payments of Rp42 million to the heirs of the late Eric Catur Saputro, a village development board official from Ngering Village, Jogonalan Sub-district.

Klaten’s Dispermasdes Head stated that social protection for workers is crucial for village officials and rural workers. By becoming BPJS Ketenagakerjaan members, workers receive protection coverage when facing work-related accidents or death.

“Through the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme, the government provides protection for workers, including village officials. Therefore, all villages are encouraged to continue promoting BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership so that more people are protected,” she said.

Meanwhile, Arimeita Wahyu Adi, Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Klaten Branch, stated that the benefits provided to the deceased’s heirs represent the outcomes of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan death benefit programme. Death benefits are provided to heirs because the deceased was registered and active. The payment demonstrates that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is present to provide protection for members and their families.

Arimeita hoped that all village officials and workers in Klaten District would be protected under the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme, ensuring that families left behind have financial protection when risks occur.

“Through this activity, synergy between the local government, village governments, and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is expected to strengthen in expanding membership coverage for village officials, vulnerable workers, and rural communities,” she said.
