BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and Brawijaya University have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Partnership Agreement (PKS) to strengthen collaboration in implementing labour social security within the university’s ecosystem.

The MoU was signed by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Director General Syaiful Hidayat and Brawijaya University Rector Widodo on Friday, 29 June at the university’s rectorate building.

The agreement includes provisions ensuring that intern and Community Service (KKN) students receive protection against workplace accidents (JKK) and death risks (JKM) during academic and community service activities, while university staff suffering work-related injuries or occupational diseases will be served through the Work Accident Service Centre (PLKK).

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Director General Saiful Hidayat stated that collaboration with universities is a crucial step in building early awareness and a culture of labour social security protection, expressing hope that this comprehensive partnership with Brawijaya University will be replicated by other institutions.

“Through this synergy, we aim for optimal implementation of labour social security programmes, not only for campus educators and workers but also for students undertaking internships or KKN. This collaboration is expected to serve as a model for partnerships between universities and state institutions in creating an adaptive employment ecosystem while strengthening social security literacy among academics and the youth,” he said.

In addition to the MoU signing, a PKS was also signed between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Membership Director Agung Nugroho, Brawijaya University’s Business Management Director Anthon Efani, and Vice Rector Muchamad Ali Safa’at to optimise social security programme protection for staff and students.

Collaboration on social security education, internships, and education was also established between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Director of Human Capital and General Affairs Harjono Siswanto and Academic Vice Rector Imam Santoso. Furthermore, a PKS was signed between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Strategic Planning and IT Director Ihsanudin and Research and Innovation Vice Rector Ludigdo regarding the development of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for improving labour social security programmes, as well as research and dissemination of social security initiatives.

From the university’s perspective, all these collaborations embody the implementation of the tridharma of higher education, which includes teaching, research, and community service.

Brawijaya University Rector Widodo welcomed the strategic partnership with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, stating that collaboration between the education sector and social security providers can be strengthened to create superior, innovative, and protected human resources.

“We fully support and appreciate this strategic collaboration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. This partnership is a concrete step to strengthen the tridharma of higher education, particularly through education, research, innovation, and enhancing human resources adaptable to workplace needs and technological advancements. We also hope that students undertaking internships and KKN will be protected from risks during their duties through registration in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Work Accident (JKK) and Death Benefit (JKM) programmes,” he concluded.
