BPJS Kesehatan Samarinda Branch, East Kalimantan, is involving sub-districts, villages, community health centres, and related parties in socialising the reactivation process for over 10,000 Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) Jaminan Kesehatan members in Samarinda who are inactive.

“Through this socialisation, residents who urgently need healthcare services can reactivate their membership through the procedures set by the Ministry of Social Affairs,” said the Head of Quality of Membership Services at BPJS Kesehatan Samarinda, Aslamiyah, during a socialisation event at the Samarinda Ulu Sub-district Office, Samarinda, Wednesday (25/20).

Those who urgently need healthcare services are residents who are sick, so this illness requires immediate treatment. Meanwhile, reactivation for residents who are still healthy requires a field verification process, which will involve several parties such as sub-district social welfare officers (TKSK), assistants for the Family Hope Program (PKH), village officials, and the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) in the area.

In this case, officers will re-check whether the person can become a PBI member again or become an independent participant, because this depends on the results of the survey conducted at the applicant’s home.

She gave an example that there are residents who want to reactivate their PBI, but it turns out that the resident has a car and rents out a house with 10 rooms, so the resident is given an explanation that they must become an independent participant, not a PBI member, because PBI is the right of residents who are unable.

“Sometimes there are residents who do not yet understand what an independent participant and a recipient of assistance for becoming a participant in the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) are. However, after understanding, such as the person who has 10 rooms to rent, they are willing to become an independent participant,” she said.

Aslamiyah also said that BPJS Kesehatan is a real and sustainable mutual assistance system in the health sector, because the monthly contributions paid, even if the person is not sick, are used for other residents who are sick.

In this socialisation, the Head of Social Empowerment and Handling of the Poor at the Samarinda Social and Community Empowerment Office, Sofyan Agus, said that based on the Ministry of Social Affairs system as of January 2026, there are 10,073 inactive PBI Jaminan Kesehatan members in Samarinda.

“Meanwhile, for reactivation, it can only be done for residents who really need continued healthcare services. Reactivation can be processed if the applicant brings official documents from a healthcare facility,” he said.

He said that the letter of examination results and the letter number from the healthcare facility are the main requirements before the data is re-uploaded to the central system, so if there is no letter from the healthcare facility, the system will automatically reject it.

The number of PBI JKN is very large, so re-screening is needed in the reactivation process so that assistance is targeted, so that those who are healthy cannot go through the fast reactivation process, but must go through the regular process, including field checks involving several elements.
