JAKARTA – BPJS Kesehatan continues to strengthen service transformation and cross-sector collaboration to improve the quality of national health coverage. Over more than a decade, the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme has shown significant achievements with participant coverage nearly reaching the entire Indonesian population. Member of the BPJS Kesehatan Supervisory Board, Rukijo, stated that the long journey of BPJS Kesehatan since starting operations in 2014 has produced various advancements, both in terms of services and public participation levels. “In this journey of more than 12 years, we have achieved many advancements. Currently, almost 99 percent of Indonesia’s population are BPJS Kesehatan participants,” said Rukijo in Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026). “There is still homework for us, namely encouraging participants who are not yet active to truly utilise their participation. So far, many only process BPJS when they need health services,” he explained. Rukijo also emphasised the importance of educating the public about rights and obligations as participants, so that the benefits of health coverage can be felt optimally. “We want the entire community to understand how this health coverage works, so they can play an active role and receive more comprehensive services,” he added. To expand the reach of education, BPJS Kesehatan is collaborating with various partners, including public figures. One of them is appointing Raffi Ahmad as the Honorary Ambassador of BPJS Kesehatan. “This programme is built with a spirit of mutual cooperation. Currently, around two million health service transactions occur every day, showing high utilisation of services by the public,” he said. He also highlighted the increasing public awareness of health services, which impacts the high utilisation of health facilities. However, on the other hand, new challenges have emerged, particularly the increasing cases of non-communicable diseases among young people. “We see an increase in cases of hypertension and diabetes among the youth. This is a shared concern to encourage promotional and preventive efforts,” he stressed. “I want to convey to the youth that living healthy starts now, don’t wait until you’re sick. The JKN programme is very important because health is a basic need for everyone,” said the President’s Special Envoy for Youth Development and Arts Workers. He also shared his views on healthy lifestyles that can be adopted by young people, from mindset to physical activities. According to Raffi, maintaining health not only impacts individuals but also becomes an important foundation for the future of the nation’s generation. “Living healthy starts from a positive mindset, good eating patterns, and regular exercise. I myself am still active in running and have participated in several world marathons,” he asserted.
