BPJS Kesehatan intensifies JKN education for domestic workers
Denpasar (ANTARA) - BPJS Kesehatan is intensifying education on the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme for domestic workers following the approval of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) as law by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). “We are advocating, educating, and disseminating information, essentially returning to the concern for protecting oneself and others,” said Deputy Director for Service Quality Management at BPJS Kesehatan, Cecep Falah Rakhmatiana, on the sidelines of the JKN synergy forum with Korpri in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday. The steps to be taken include providing understanding, particularly to employers, on the importance of national health insurance protection. Given that the law was passed on Tuesday (21/4), the agency will study the regulations in depth to provide optimal protection for domestic workers. The approval of the bill into law serves as a gift for Kartini Day commemorations after discussions lasting nearly 22 years. Health and employment social security are among the 12 key provisions in the law that provide justice for domestic workers. Provisions related to JKN are regulated in Articles 15 and 16 of the UU PPRT. Article 16 states that health social security is provided to domestic workers (PRT) as recipients of premium assistance (PBI) covered by the central and regional governments. However, if the PRT is not included in PBI, the health social security premiums are borne by the employer based on agreements or work contracts, known to the neighbourhood head (RT/RW). Meanwhile, employment social security premiums are borne by the employer according to agreements or work contracts.
