BPJS Kesehatan in Riau Islands Pays Out IDR 1.7 Trillion in Claims Throughout 2025
Tanjungpinang - The Deputy Director of Region II at BPJS Kesehatan, Nopi Hidayat, stated that his organisation has paid out IDR 1.7 trillion in claims for treatments under the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme for the Riau Islands (Kepri) province throughout 2025.
“The largest claim payments were for outpatient care at IDR 147 billion and inpatient care at IDR 230 billion,” said Nopi during a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR and related stakeholders at the Regional Building in Tanjungpinang City, Kepri, on Wednesday.
According to Nopi, childbirth operations were the largest funded area in Kepri last year, totalling IDR 85 billion, followed by respiratory treatments at IDR 50 billion, haemodialysis (dialysis), and cataracts amounting to IDR 128 billion.
On the same occasion, he also praised Kepri’s achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with JKN participation coverage reaching 98 per cent.
He noted that Kepri’s achievement is the highest among the four provinces in Region II of BPJS Kesehatan, which includes Kepri, Riau, West Sumatra, and Jambi.
“For Kepri, only Batam City and Tanjungpinang City need about one more per cent to fully meet the priority UHC,” revealed Nopi Hidayat.
Nopi explained that BPJS Kesehatan is also ready to collaborate with the Riau Islands Provincial Government to integrate data on the remaining approximately 24,710 residents so they can be promptly registered in the JKN programme.
BPJS Kesehatan Kepri has reactivated 700 participants who were previously deactivated in accordance with the Ministry of Social Affairs’ decree, while another 57 individuals have independently reactivated.
BPJS Kesehatan is also inviting the Riau Islands Provincial Government to increase promotional and preventive efforts to reduce the relatively high rate of catastrophic diseases in the area.
“We need support from local governments for these promotional and preventive efforts, given that the cost burden of catastrophic diseases in Kepri is quite high,” said Nopi Hidayat.
