The National Health Insurance (JKN) programme demonstrated positive performance at the beginning of this year. BPJS Kesehatan Chief Executive Prihati Pujowaskito revealed that, based on data as of February 2026, JKN participation has reached 284.6 million people, equivalent to 98.74% of Indonesia’s total population.

Prihati elaborated that, according to the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the targets for health insurance coverage include 99% participation, 83.5% active participation rate, 96.8 million PBI participants, 89% public satisfaction rate, financial health level of 1.5 to six months, and 76% active coverage for children aged 0-17 years in health insurance.

“We are committed to achieving these targets and indicators by collaborating with all ministries/institutions and stakeholders,” she stated during a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Prihati noted that BPJS Kelsehaten’s primary concern is the 58.32 million inactive participants.

“This poses a challenge for BPJS Kesehatan to reduce the number of inactive participants through various strategies and support from stakeholders,” she said.

According to her, 13.48 million people are in arrears on contributions, while 44.84 million are due to deactivation of PBI and local government PBBU participants. Meanwhile, in terms of healthcare facility partnerships, as of February 2026, there are collaborations with 23,529 Primary Healthcare Facilities (FKTP) or clinics and 3,189 hospitals or Secondary/Tertiary Referral Healthcare Facilities (FKRTL).

Furthermore, she added that in terms of programme utilisation, the benefits disbursed have reached Rp 1.272 quadrillion from 2014 to 2025.

“In 2025, there were 1.9 million people visiting partnered healthcare facilities with BPJS Kesehatan per day. Hospital visits per day have increased fivefold compared to 2014, with PBI utilisation higher than non-PBI, or in other words, JKN is more beneficial to the poor,” stated Prihati.
