BPJS Kesehatan Chief: Rp20 Trillion Injection Disbursed After Regulation Signed

The President Director of the Social Security Administering Body (BPJS) Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, has stated that a fund injection of Rp20 trillion for the sustainability of the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme can be disbursed once the relevant regulation has been signed.

“The funds can be released if there is a regulation stating that the asset deficit condition meets the specified requirements. Once that regulation is signed, the disbursement is expected to take place as soon as possible. The hope is that the funds can be received as early as next month or at the latest by August 2026,” Prihati Pujowaskito said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Without additional intervention, he noted, BPJS Kesehatan is estimated to be able to survive only until July 2027 before facing a default.

Pujo, as he is commonly known, acknowledged the financial condition of BPJS Kesehatan, which shows a claim ratio of 108 per cent, meaning expenditures are higher than revenues. However, he noted that this deficit is not a new issue.

“A similar situation has been experienced since around 2018–2019. This deficit is not caused by the current board of directors. Therefore, the main focus of BPJS is to maintain sustainability through the strengthening of risk pooling, robust funding, quality and cost control, and the improvement of service quality for participants,” he explained.

BPJS Kesehatan has also launched the ‘Rehab 3.0’ innovation to make it easier for participants with premium arrears to pay more flexibly.

“We have launched an application that makes it easier for inactive participants due to arrears to make payments in stages. So, what used to be monthly can now be weekly, or even daily. Once again, the essence of this is to provide convenience for participants and ease the burden of paying their arrears,” said BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito.
