BPJS Kesehatan Boosts JKN Programme Through Research and Innovation Collaboration
BPJS Kesehatan has launched The 5th Open Call for Research Proposal 2026 and the Sinova Programme (Synergy of Innovation with Local Governments). The initiative aims to drive improvements in service quality and ensure that JKN Programme policies are increasingly responsive to community needs. It also serves as a collaborative platform for BPJS Kesehatan, academics, researchers, and local governments to generate evidence-based innovations and recommendations that support the strengthening of the JKN Programme’s implementation.
BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito stated that strengthening research and innovation is a crucial foundation for maintaining the sustainability of the JKN Programme while improving service quality for participants. He assessed that the increasingly dynamic challenges facing the health system need to be addressed through policies supported by data and research findings.
"BPJS Kesehatan believes that research and innovation play a role in supporting the transformation of health services. The various challenges faced require solutions that are not only adaptive but also strengthened by data. Therefore, we continue to open up space for collaboration with academics, researchers, local governments, and various stakeholders to produce recommendations that can provide real benefits to the community," Pujo said in a statement on Friday (26/6/2026).
Through The 5th Open Call for Research Proposal 2026, held from 26 June to 17 July 2026, BPJS Kesehatan invites universities, research institutions, academics, and researchers from various regions to contribute scientific studies that can support the development of the JKN Programme. The research topics being competed include strengthening promotive and preventive measures, increasing participant activeness, detecting and tackling fraud, and strengthening JKN Programme governance.
Pujo explained that over the past few years, various research results born from the collaboration between BPJS Kesehatan and the academic world have provided new perspectives in understanding participant needs, health service challenges, and the effectiveness of policy implementation in the field.
"We want to encourage the emergence of various studies relevant to the current needs of the JKN Programme’s implementation. The research results are not only intended to be academic documents but are expected to be translated into applicable recommendations to improve service quality for the community," Pujo said.
BPJS Kesehatan also launched the Sinova Programme, a collaborative platform to encourage the birth of various service and governance innovations that can be developed together with local governments according to the needs and characteristics of each region. BPJS Kesehatan believes that cross-unit, cross-function, and cross-stakeholder collaboration is key to delivering relevant solutions to various challenges. Change through innovation requires collaborative space, openness, the courage to share ideas, and mutually reinforcing partnerships.
"We believe that local governments understand the characteristics and needs of the communities in their respective regions. When that experience is combined with the competence, data, and operational experience of BPJS Kesehatan, various innovations will emerge that are more targeted, more implementable, and capable of strengthening the sustainability of the JKN Programme," Pujo asserted.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the BPJS Kesehatan Supervisory Board, Stevanus Adrianto Passat, assessed that strengthening research and innovation is a step to ensure the JKN Programme remains adaptive to community needs. According to him, the implementation of a sustainable programme requires policy support formulated based on data, scientific studies, and field implementation experience.
He stated that the Open Call for Research Proposal and the Sinova Programme represent BPJS Kesehatan’s efforts to build a culture of sustainable transformation through collaboration with various stakeholders. This collaboration is important to ensure that innovation does not stop as a short-term project or a standalone good practice, but can be replicated, expanded, and provide sustainable benefits for the community.
"The JKN Programme is a strategic programme that continues to evolve and provides benefits for millions of Indonesians. We view innovation as a necessity for an organisation of this size, and also a primary need to ensure the JKN Programme remains relevant, adaptive, and capable of answering future challenges," Stevanus stated.
He further emphasised that the success of innovation is not only measured by the number of ideas generated, but by the extent to which these innovations can be implemented and have a real impact on the community. For this reason, collaboration between BPJS Kesehatan, academics, researchers, local governments, and various other parties needs to be continuously strengthened.
On the same occasion, BPJS Kesehatan also presented the BPJS Kesehatan Innovation Anthology Book, which contains various good practices and innovative ideas that have been developed within the organization. The book is expected to serve as a learning medium and inspiration in promoting a sustainable culture of innovation.
