This is also a contribution to supporting President RI Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita in strengthening the quality of human resources and the national health system.

Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, emphasised that the sustainability of the JKN programme will be the primary focus over the next five years.

According to Prihati, various challenges such as population ageing, a surge in chronic diseases, and medical cost inflation demand strengthened adaptive and collaborative health system management strategies.

“The JKN programme is an important pillar in social protection as well as a driver of national health development. The sustainability of this programme also aligns with the national development direction in President Prabowo’s Asta Cita, particularly in improving the quality of health services and public welfare,” explained Pujo in a written statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).

He made this statement at the PERSI 2026 Seminar on Saturday (2/5). Pujo added that as of 1 April 2026, the JKN programme coverage has reached more than 285 million people or over 98% of Indonesia’s total population.

In addition, BPJS Kesehatan has partnered with 23,623 community health centres (Puskesmas), primary clinics, or individual general practitioners, as well as 3,206 hospitals and major clinics.

“On the other hand, increased access to health services is accompanied by rising financing burdens, particularly for catastrophic diseases costing more than Rp50 trillion in 2025. This situation drives the need for strengthened ongoing quality and cost controls within the JKN programme ecosystem,” said Pujo.

In the context of cooperation with hospitals, BPJS Kesehatan is promoting a transformation of services from a volume-based approach to value-based care, focusing on treatment outcomes and patient safety.

According to Pujo, the strategic role of hospitals is crucial because they not only pursue the quantity of services but ensure that every service delivers optimal health outcomes.

“To support this transformation, BPJS Kesehatan together with PERSI is promoting strengthened clinical governance, adherence to clinical pathways, and the implementation of performance-based payment systems. In addition, the utilisation of technology such as digital medical records and AI- and machine learning-based claims management continues to be developed to enhance service efficiency and accuracy,” said Pujo.

Pujo stated that collaboration with PERSI is also aimed at expanding access to health services, particularly in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas, through innovations such as mobile health facilities and telemedicine utilisation. According to him, the success of the JKN programme is the result of joint efforts by all stakeholders.

“Thank you to President Prabowo for continuously supporting the sustainability of the JKN programme. With stronger collaboration, we are optimistic that the JKN programme can produce a healthy generation for Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045,” he concluded.
