BPJS Kesehatan, Already Owning Three Hospital Ships, Plans to Add Navy Vessels
Jakarta - The Director General of BPJS Kesehatan, Retired Major General TNI Prihati Pujowaskito, stated that his organisation already possesses three hospital ships to expand National Health Insurance (JKN) services to underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T). The plan is to add more hospital ships following guidance from TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral TNI Dr Muhammad Ali. “Actually, we already collaborate with three hospital ships: those owned by Ksatria Airlangga and the Floating Hospital (RSA) dr. Lie Dharmawan; we will add Navy vessels, of course, after obtaining cooperation and directions from the TNI Commander and the Navy Chief of Staff,” said Pujo at the BPJS Kesehatan office on Tuesday (7/4/2026). BPJS Kesehatan has also met with the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to discuss the scheme for this hospital ship programme. “Our programme is JKN 3T; we have included it in the quick wins. We have already met with the Minister of Defense,” Pujo said. If it proceeds as planned, the hospital ships to reach 3T regions will operate within the next three months. “Of course, we will plan that within the next three months,” he added. He acknowledged that many underdeveloped areas still lack adequate healthcare facilities like those in major cities. “So that services that have not yet been felt in underdeveloped areas can be provided through hospital ships,” Pujo explained.
