A spirit of healthy living was evident among thousands of participants filling the football field at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (UNDIKSHA) during the BPJS Kesehatan Fun Run 2026 on Sunday, 24 May 2026. The event was held in collaboration with UNDIKSHA and Early Miles Running Community.

The BPJS Kesehatan Fun Run 2026 is a concrete initiative to encourage the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle through enjoyable physical activity while enhancing awareness of the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme.

‘Maintaining health can start with simple steps, such as regularly engaging in physical activities like running,’ said BPJS Kesehatan Managing Director Prihati Pujowaskito.

Exercise offers significant benefits for heart health, blood sugar control, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Hypertension (HT), which are increasingly affecting younger, working-age populations.

‘Chronic diseases are no longer limited to the elderly; they are increasingly prevalent among young and productive individuals. Therefore, we continue to urge the public to adopt healthy habits through regular physical activity, balanced diets, mental well-being, and early health screenings,’ said Pujo.

He highlighted a rising trend in DM and HT cases in recent years, particularly among those under 45. Data from 2021 to 2025 shows JKN participants diagnosed with DM increased from 240,000 to over 401,000 cases—a 67.4% rise. Hypertension cases rose from 706,000 to over 1 million, a 43.9% increase.

Alongside the growing cases, healthcare expenditures for DM and HT have also risen. BPJS Kesehatan recorded DM-related spending rising from £3.9 trillion in 2021 to £8.7 trillion in 2025, while hypertension costs increased from £6.2 trillion to £15.1 trillion over the same period. Cumulatively, from 2014 to 2025, BPJS Kesehatan has spent approximately £151.4 trillion on DM and HT treatments.
