BPJS Health Chief Reveals Proposal for Premium Contributions from Foreign Nationals
The CEO of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, has revealed a proposal for foreign nationals to pay higher health insurance premiums that would cover premium facilities. “What if we increase the contributions for foreigners? VIP class if necessary. For foreigners, that is,” he stated during a meeting with Commission IX at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Prihati explained that the idea is based on his experiences observing foreign nationals who frequently compare Indonesian healthcare facilities with those in their home countries. “So, indeed, in Bali, when I was there last Sunday, I visited a hospital. He was being treated. You know, when we go to a place, they immediately ask why the services in this hospital are no different from hospitals in their home country. They even compare,” he revealed. According to him, foreign nationals often complain about healthcare facilities in Indonesia, even though the facilities received are in line with the contributions they pay. “Imagine. They’ve already paid just enough. Then they compare the services. They say it’s like this, why is it different, why does it take so long, and so on,” he added. “But this is just a proposal. For foreigners, perhaps their premiums could be made premium,” he concluded.
