BPJS Collaborates with Four Ministries to Strengthen Health Insurance
The Health Social Security Organising Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) has signed memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with four ministries and agencies. This collaboration aims to integrate data, expand participant coverage, and improve sustainable compliance.
The signing took place with the Ministry of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions; the Ministry of Cooperatives; the Planning and Development Agency of the Ministry of Manpower; and the National Nutrition Agency at the BPJS Kesehatan head office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
BPJS Kesehatan’s Director General, Retired Major General Prihati Pujowaskito, stated that this cooperation addresses the main future challenges of the National Health Insurance (JKN), which extend beyond coverage expansion to maintaining participant activity and the quality of protection.
“Through this collaboration, we are optimistic about strengthening the JKN foundation comprehensively. This partnership is expected to be the key to ensuring JKN remains adaptive and sustainable as the main pillar of social protection in Indonesia,” said Pujowaskito during the memorandum signing event in Central Jakarta on 7 April 2026.
Pujo explained that each ministry and agency brings a strategic role according to its mandate to strengthen the JKN ecosystem comprehensively. For instance, cooperation with the Ministry of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions will enhance health protection expansion to village areas and affirmative regions.
Meanwhile, cooperation with the Ministry of Cooperatives will expand the participant base through the Merah Putih Cooperatives ecosystem. Cooperation with the Planning and Development Agency of the Ministry of Manpower will strengthen data quality and worker participation compliance, as well as support the national nutrition fulfilment programme.
Pujo stated that this cooperation aligns with the 100-Day Quick Wins Programme of the First Working Period of the BPJS Kesehatan Directorate for 2026-2031, which ensures JKN participants receive quick and solution-oriented responses when facing obstacles in accessing services in the field. Additionally, these Quick Wins aim to accelerate the programme’s impact on society.
“In summary, this entire collaboration forms a grand orchestration of JKN strengthening from upstream to downstream, starting from data base strengthening, participant coverage expansion, participant activity improvement, to integration of national health development programmes,” said Pujo.
