BPJPH strengthens internal control system for halal certification services

The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) is strengthening its internal control system within the halal certification service process to ensure it operates professionally, transparently, accountably, and with integrity. BPJPH Principal Secretary Muhammad Aqil Irham stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that this is increasingly important given that the certification services directly interact with business operators as service users, whilst providing assurance of product halal status to the public. “As a public service institution, BPJPH must be able to identify every vulnerability in the business process that could potentially lead to irregularities, including gratuities and corruption. Therefore, risk mitigation and strengthening the control system are inseparable from efforts to improve the quality of public services,” said Aqil Irham. He further explained that the halal certification process involves various stakeholders and related service actors, including BPJPH, Halal Inspection Bodies (LPH), Halal Product Process Assistance Institutions (LP3H), the Halal Product Fatwa Committee, and the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). “The complexity of this process demands a robust control system at every stage of service so that potential risks can be identified, mitigated, and prevented early on. Strengthening these controls is also becoming more strategic as the volume of halal certification services increases and more parties become involved in the Halal Product Assurance ecosystem,” said Aqil. One of the efforts undertaken by BPJPH is the Corruption Control Effectiveness Index (IEPK) Guidance, organised by the BPJPH Inspectorate in cooperation with the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) earlier this week. BPJPH Inspector Muhammad Fitri said this guidance activity is part of a series of efforts to strengthen BPJPH’s governance and internal controls in supporting the sustainable implementation of the Government Internal Control System (SPIP). “This step simultaneously supports the implementation of halal certification services that are increasingly transparent, accountable, with integrity, and oriented towards quality public service,” he said.
