BPJPH strengthens internal control system for halal certification services

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) is strengthening control systems within its halal certification services to ensure they operate professionally, transparently, accountably and with integrity.

BPJPH’s Primary Secretary, Muhammad Aqil Irham, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, stressed that this has become increasingly important given that BPJPH’s certification services deal directly with business operators as service users, whilst also providing assurance of product halalness for the public.

“As a public service institution, BPJPH must be able to identify every vulnerable point in the business process that could potentially lead to irregularities, including gratification and criminal acts of corruption. That is why risk mitigation and strengthening control systems are an inseparable part of efforts to improve the quality of public services,” said Aqil Irham.

He further explained that the halal certification process involves various stakeholders and related service actors, including BPJPH, Halal Inspection Bodies (LPH), Halal Product Process Assistance Institutions (LP3H), the Halal Product Fatwa Committee, and the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

“The complexity of this process demands a strong control system at every stage of service so that potential risks can be identified, mitigated and prevented early on. Strengthening these controls has also become more strategic as the volume of halal certification services increases and more parties become involved in the Halal Product Assurance ecosystem,” he said.

One of the measures taken by BPJPH was a Corruption Prevention Control Effectiveness Index (IEPK) coaching programme organised by the BPJPH Inspectorate in cooperation with the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) earlier this week.

BPJPH Inspector Muhammad Fitri said the activity forms part of a series of efforts to strengthen governance and internal controls at BPJPH in supporting the sustainable implementation of the Government Internal Control System (SPIP).

“This step also supports the delivery of halal certification services that are increasingly transparent, accountable, integrity-driven, and oriented towards high-quality public services,” he said.
