BPJPH: 'Self Declare' Halal Certificates for MSEs Issued Within 24 Hours
The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, known as Babe Haikal, stated that micro and small enterprise (MSE) operators can apply for a ‘self declare’ halal certificate. He said the certificate will be issued within 1x24 hours after the required documents are declared complete. “I dare to commit that the halal certificate will be issued within 1x24 hours when all documents are complete for the self declare scheme,” he said during an MSE Talkshow at the Smesco Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/6). He conveyed that digital transformation is one of the main factors driving the improvement of halal certification services while expanding the reach of business operators who can access these services. Babe Haikal also emphasised that halal certification is increasingly needed because halal is no longer viewed solely as a need for the Muslim community, but has become part of a global trend related to health, sustainability, and the economy. “Stop saying that halal is only for Muslims. The world is full of halal and no longer looks at religion,” he said. He noted that interest in halal products in China, South Korea, and the United States is increasing. According to him, these countries even view halal from different angles, ranging from a symbol of health and an environmentally friendly lifestyle to an engine of economic growth. Based on a DinarStandard report, he said, the global halal industry transaction value reached approximately Rp21,000 trillion, with around Rp6,900 trillion of that occurring in Indonesia. Furthermore, in 2025, the contribution of the sharia economy and halal industry also provided a significant contribution to the national economy, namely around 27 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).
