BPJPH reminds businesses to implement Mandatory Halal policy from October
The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has reminded business operators to immediately process halal certificates for their products ahead of the implementation of the Mandatory Halal policy, which will come into force on 18 October 2026. Head of BPJPH Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the policy is mandated by Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance and Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance Sector. “This obligation is absolute and covers a number of product types as stipulated in the regulation,” Haikal said in a statement received in Denpasar on Wednesday. He stressed that the halal certification obligation represents the state’s presence in providing protection, certainty, security, and comfort to the public in consuming and using products circulating in Indonesia. Furthermore, Haikal stated that the implementation of Mandatory Halal in October 2026 is a continuation of the phasing of halal certification obligations for medium and large business products that began in October 2024. “Mandatory Halal in October 2026 not only requires food and beverage products to be halal-certified. This policy has been expanded in scope to include products from micro and small enterprises, as well as overseas or imported products,” he said. Haikal also reminded that violations of Halal Product Assurance provisions may result in administrative sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations, ranging from written warnings, administrative fines, revocation of halal certificates, to the withdrawal of products from circulation.
