BPJPH Raises Awareness of Mandatory Halal Certification Among Indonesian Trade Representatives in 33 Countries
The Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) has conducted an awareness campaign regarding the implementation of mandatory halal certification policy among Indonesian trade representatives in 33 countries. The hybrid event, held on Thursday (12 March 2026), was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and agencies as well as BPJPH officials.
In his remarks, BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan emphasised that the mandatory halal policy will be implemented on 18 October 2026 with no possibility of delay. He noted that the policy represents part of a lengthy journey in developing Indonesia’s halal product guarantee system dating back to the Soeharto era and further strengthened during subsequent administrations, including those of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Joko Widodo.
Haikal stressed that halal certification extends beyond religious considerations, serving as an important component of national economic strategy and global halal industry development, particularly in the food and beverage sector. The use of halal labelling on certified products and indication of non-halal status on uncertified products protects consumers fairly and provides certainty for all parties according to their respective preferences.
Deputy Head of Partnership and Standardisation at BPJPH Abd Syakur outlined developments in international cooperation within Indonesia’s halal product guarantee system, with the aim of facilitating halal certification processes for imported products whilst strengthening international recognition of Indonesia’s system.
Secretary of the Directorate General for National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Arief Wibisono emphasised the crucial role of Indonesian trade representatives abroad as frontline promoters of Indonesian halal products in global markets. He also invited all trade representatives to participate in Trade Expo Indonesia 2026, scheduled for October 2026, and encouraged them to promote Indonesia’s halal policy to trade partners in their respective host countries.
