The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, received a visit from the Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Anggito Abimanyu. The meeting between the two agency leaders aimed to strengthen synergy in developing the national halal product assurance ecosystem, particularly through the upgrading of BPJPH’s halal laboratories.

Haikal stated that strengthening the laboratories is a key element in ensuring the credibility of Indonesia’s halal system.

“Today is a joyful moment for us, as we have the honour of receiving the presence of a professor with sharp insights, particularly regarding the importance of upgrading laboratories,” said Haikal in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Haikal emphasised that laboratories are the main foundation in organising halal product assurance. According to him, the strength of the halal system is greatly determined by testing and scientific proof capabilities.

“The laboratory is the soul of halal product assurance. Our strength is determined by our testing and scientific proof capabilities. Superior detection capacity will position BPJPH credibly and fairly in making decisions,” he explained.

He added that the existence of state-of-the-art laboratories is crucial in resolving differences in results or doubts about a product’s halal status.

“When there are differing results, the decision must refer to the institution with the strongest and most trusted testing capabilities. We want to ensure that such capacity exists in BPJPH,” he asserted.

In the meeting, both parties also discussed strengthening laboratory capacity, including scaling up and improving service quality as part of enhancing the national halal ecosystem.

On the same occasion, Anggito expressed his support for developing halal product assurance to have standards equivalent to those in other countries.

“We support the development of halal product assurance to be at least on par with similar institutions in other countries. Strengthening laboratories is an important part of making this system increasingly credible,” said Anggito.

He also affirmed that LPS is ready to coordinate cross-agency support in strengthening the national halal system, including upgrading BPJPH’s laboratories.

“BPJPH’s laboratories must have quality above others. This is not an ordinary laboratory. Because BPJPH’s lab must be the lab of labs, the judge must be the judge. The quality of BPJPH’s lab must be above others. And this is not a retail lab, but for testing products that have already been tested but require further testing,” he continued.

The synergy between BPJPH and LPS is expected to accelerate the strengthening of national halal infrastructure while increasing public trust in Indonesia’s halal product assurance system.

In the future, both institutions will follow up on the meeting results through concrete steps to support the development of modern, accurate, and high-standard halal laboratories.
