BPJPH Invites 18 Chinese Halal Certification Bodies to Strengthen Mandatory Halal Product Cooperation

“I am inviting all halal institutions from the People’s Republic of China. Let’s work together to build a better economy,” stated BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan (Babe Haikal) in a written statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026). “Of course, with a spirit of mutual benefit for both countries, making exports easier but still selective,” he added. Babe Haikal further explained that strengthening this cooperation also encompasses the overall halal ecosystem, from inspection processes, inventory, packaging, to product distribution. This is a crucial aspect in ensuring the quality of halal products from upstream to downstream. In the meeting, Babe Haikal delivered a key speech affirming that mandatory halal certification is no longer limited to product certification alone but has been expanded to cover the entire distribution chain, including packaging, storage, and distribution, as an implementation of comprehensive halal control (end-to-end). “Companies that previously only obtained halal certification for their products will, in the future, also be required to ensure that their packaging, storage, and distribution processes meet halal certification requirements,” explained Babe Haikal. This new policy on comprehensive halal control will soon be implemented in line with the stages of mandatory halal certification obligations for foreign halal products entering Indonesia. The policy aims to minimise the risk of contamination by non-halal materials across halal products as a whole. According to Babe Haikal, China is the first country invited to this forum because it has the largest number of foreign halal certification bodies (LHLN) and significant product volumes in trade relations with Indonesia. Additionally, China is regarded as one of the pioneers in the global halal industry, with continuously increasing halal product production up to 2026. “So, there’s no harm in us looking and learning from the implementation in China, even though the majority (of its population) is non-Muslim, but they are so aware of halal,” said Babe Haikal. Moving forward, BPJPH plans to hold similar meetings with halal institutions from other countries, including those in the European region. This effort is part of initiatives to promote the halal sector as a major contributor to achieving national economic targets. Through this forum, BPJPH hopes that international cooperation in halal product assurance will grow stronger and drive sustainable growth in the global halal industry.
