BPJPH Insists Mandatory Halal Certification Will Not Be Delayed
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has stressed that there will be no delay to the implementation of mandatory halal certification, which is due to begin on 18 October 2026.
“Mandatory Halal will still be implemented from 18 October 2026. There will be no postponement,” BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
Haikal said the government was drawing up special provisions for certain circumstances, particularly for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), as well as for raw materials and goods.
He said the provisions were intended to ensure that implementation proceeds in an orderly manner, safeguards business continuity, provides business certainty and remains in line with applicable laws and regulations.
“The government is preparing special provisions for certain circumstances, particularly for MSE products and imported products, so that implementation remains orderly and proportionate and does not disrupt business continuity,” Haikal said.
He added that mandatory halal certification and the assurance of halal status for foreign products did not constitute a limited ban, a restriction or coercion against businesses.
The policy forms part of the implementation of Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, which aims to provide certainty and protection for the public, as well as business certainty for enterprises.
The government will ensure mandatory halal certification is implemented in an orderly and measured way, in accordance with the law, through guidance and oversight mechanisms.
Haikal also stressed that there was no policy to conduct raids or take similar action against businesses on the ground.
He urged businesses and the public to be alert to various scams using BPJPH’s name, particularly those taking advantage of the introduction of mandatory halal certification.
“Such scams may involve communications falsely claiming to be from BPJPH and asking businesses to pay money on the grounds of fines, sanctions or settlement of halal certification obligations,” Haikal said.
