BPJPH: Halal Industry Contributes 27 Per Cent to National GDP
JAKARTA — The Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH) has stated that the halal industry ecosystem and supply chain contribute approximately 27 per cent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The value reaches approximately Rp 4,900 trillion. This ecosystem operates under the supervision and regulation of Halal Product Assurance (JPH).
“The contribution of the halal industry to the national economy is immense, accounting for 27 per cent of the national GDP. This demonstrates that halal is not merely a matter of certification, but also an essential component of Indonesia’s economic development,” said the Head of BPJPH, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
The impact of this sector is substantial for the movement of national production, trade, and consumption sectors. “Its contribution to the economy and the lives of the community is very large, even though it is often not directly visible,” Haikal added.
Haikal emphasised that halal pertains to more than just product certification. According to him, halal encompasses the entire ecosystem and supply chain involving various sectors. These sectors include processing industries, logistics, trade, and various supporting service sectors.
Consequently, the implementation of Halal Product Assurance (JPH) helps drive economic activity across multiple sectors. “Behind a single halal product lies a long supply chain involving millions of business actors. As the halal ecosystem grows, the production, distribution, trade, and export sectors also grow. Halal becomes an important instrument in creating national economic added value,” said Haikal.
