Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has confirmed that halal certificates for micro and small business operators applying through the self-declare scheme can be issued within a maximum of 1x24 hours, once all required documents are declared complete. BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan, familiarly known as Babe Haikal, stated that this service acceleration is now possible through the use of digitalisation and artificial intelligence in the halal certification process. “So I am confident enough to commit that a halal certificate will be issued within 1x24 hours when all documents are complete for the self-declare scheme,” he said during an SME Talkshow at the Smesco Building in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, digital transformation is one of the main factors driving improvements in halal certification services while also expanding the reach of business operators who can access the service. Beyond highlighting the service acceleration, Babe Haikal also emphasised that halal certification is increasingly necessary, as halal is no longer viewed solely as a requirement for Muslims but has become part of a global trend related to health, sustainability, and the economy. “Stop saying halal is only for Muslims. The world is full of halal and no longer looks at religion. Halal is a need for everyone,” he added. He cited growing interest in halal products in several non-Muslim countries such as China, South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom. According to him, these countries view halal from different angles, ranging from a symbol of health and an eco-friendly lifestyle to an engine of economic growth. Furthermore, he noted that based on a DinarStandard report, the global halal industry transaction value reaches approximately Rp21,000 trillion, with around Rp6,900 trillion of that occurring in Indonesia. He stated that in 2025, the contribution of the sharia economy and halal industry to the national economy is also significant, accounting for around 27 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP). He said BPJPH continues to push for the strengthening of the national halal ecosystem, including through the acceleration of certification services for micro and small business operators so they can more easily enter the national and global halal industry supply chain.
