BPJPH: Ensuring Halal Status Through a Traceability Approach

The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stated that ensuring halal status is achieved through a traceability approach across the entire process and supply chain.

“This approach ensures that every stage affecting the halal status of a product can be traced and verified to meet the provisions of the Halal Product Assurance (JPH) regulations,” Haikal said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Haikal noted that the concept of halal is essentially a comprehensive standard. The halal status of a product is not only determined by the types of ingredients used but also relates to how those ingredients are obtained, processed, produced, stored, packaged, and even served until they reach the consumer.

“Similarly, in the production process, products must be protected from contamination by impurities (najis) or prohibited substances, including ingredients used in seasonings, additives, and so on,” he added.

Furthermore, Haikal stated that the same principle applies to the use of equipment, ranging from production and cooking tools to storage and cleaning implements.

“Equipment used alongside non-halal products or materials can cause contamination that affects the halal status of the product,” he said.
