BPJPH emphasises importance of direct oversight of halal certification

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Ahmad Haikal Hasan, head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), has emphasised the importance of direct oversight of halal certification for products circulating in the market.

“We wish to ensure that products in circulation among the public have met halal certification requirements in accordance with regulations. This is part of the state’s commitment to providing protection and assurance to consumers,” Haikal stated in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, field supervision represents a critical component of the halal product guarantee (JPH) ecosystem, extending not only to the certification process but also to the distribution and circulation of products.

Consequently, Haikal stated that BPJPH continues to encourage business operators, including modern retailers, to proactively ensure that all products required to carry halal certification have met regulatory requirements.

He also noted that oversight will continue to be conducted periodically and in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies.

“We want business operators to comply, consumers to be protected, and Indonesia’s halal ecosystem to strengthen,” he said.

BPJPH has conducted surprise inspections at numerous supermarkets and department stores in Jakarta to verify business operator compliance with halal certification and labelling obligations as stipulated in JPH regulations.

He reminded retail business operators that they hold a strategic role as frontline guardians in ensuring that products sold to the public have met JPH requirements.

“Through active field oversight, BPJPH wishes to ensure that the principles of transparency, accountability, and consumer protection are genuinely realised, including in the product distribution sector,” Haikal said.
