BPJPH and Barantin Join Forces to Strengthen Integrated Commodity Supervision

The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) have officially signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen integrated supervision of commodities. The partnership focuses on the synergy of duties and functions in the quarantine of animals, fish, and plants within the framework of halal product assurance.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that the agreement is a strategic step to ensure public protection through integrated commodity supervision. He emphasised that the collaboration is designed to facilitate effective inspections without impeding the flow of trade, ensuring that all circulating products meet halal requirements alongside health and safety standards. “Through this synergy, we are safeguarding public comfort and strengthening Indonesia’s authority in product supervision,” Haikal said in a written statement on Thursday.

Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding highlighted that the partnership would integrate data and coordinate supervisory efforts, making the inspection process more efficient. He noted that while the two agencies have distinct mandates—Barantin focusing on biosecurity and BPJPH on halal compliance—their shared goal is comprehensive public protection. The cooperation is also aimed at bolstering law enforcement coordination to address potential violations and prevent document forgery.

The scope of the agreement includes data and information exchange, coordinated supervision of quarantine commodity traffic, joint handling of suspected violations, and human resource capacity building. This formal agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2026 and builds on a recent successful joint operation that led to the interception and destruction of Meat Bone Meal from Brazil found to contain porcine elements.
