Jakarta, VIVA – The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, has affirmed that non-halal products may continue to be produced, distributed, and sold.

However, in accordance with regulatory provisions, Haikal stressed that products derived from prohibited (haram) ingredients must clearly display a non-halal label that is easily readable by consumers.

“On the other hand, business operators gain regulatory certainty and increased market confidence, both domestically and internationally,” said Haikal in a statement on Monday, 16 February 2026.

He underscored the importance of transparency for non-halal products in Indonesia through clear labelling.

“With clear labelling distinguishing halal and non-halal products, the public can make informed choices in accordance with their respective beliefs and needs,” he said.

Haikal added that the mandatory halal policy, as stipulated in Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance (JPH), aims to provide legal certainty and consumer protection, not to restrict the circulation of certain products.

“It must be clarified if anyone claims the government prohibits the sale of non-halal products in the market, or conversely allows non-halal products without a non-halal label,” said Haikal.

In distribution and sales practices, non-halal products must also be separated from halal products to avoid confusion, mixing, or potential cross-contamination. This forms part of the traceability principle in the halal product process (PPH), which serves as the foundation of the halal product assurance policy.

“The halal product assurance policy is neither discriminatory nor restrictive of business activities. On the contrary, this regulation is designed to create a transparent, fair business ecosystem that provides certainty for all business operators, whether they produce halal or non-halal products,” he said.
