Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) has affirmed that there will be no postponement of the Mandatory Halal policy implementation, which comes into effect on 18 October 2026.

“The Mandatory Halal policy will commence on 18 October 2026 and will not be subject to any delays. This policy represents part of a long-term journey in developing Indonesia’s halal product assurance system,” stated BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, Haikal emphasised that halal value extends beyond religious considerations, constituting an important component of national economic strategy and the development of the global halal industry, particularly in the food and beverage sector.

“The use of halal labels on halal-certified products and non-halal designations on non-halal products serves to protect consumers fairly and provide certainty for all parties in accordance with their respective preferences,” he said.

Consequently, BPJPH continues to conduct socialisation of the policy with businesses and industries both domestically and internationally.

Deputy Head for Partnership and Standardisation at BPJPH Abd Syakur explained that Indonesia has established international cooperation in halal product assurance systems.

He noted that Indonesia has concluded Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) with more than 114 foreign halal bodies, supported by a network of domestic Halal Inspection Bodies (LPH).

“This cooperation is expected to streamline the certification process for imported halal products whilst strengthening international recognition of Indonesia’s halal product assurance system,” said Syakur.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Directorate General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Arief Wibisono emphasised the importance of Indonesian trade representatives abroad serving as frontline ambassadors in promoting Indonesian halal products in global markets.

He also urged all trade representatives to participate in Trade Expo Indonesia 2026, scheduled for October 2026, whilst promoting Indonesia’s halal policy to trade partners in their respective countries of assignment.
