The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stated that accelerating halal certification for businesses is a crucial factor in strengthening the national halal ecosystem.

“One of the vital factors in strengthening this ecosystem is the availability of trusted halal products and services through the implementation of Halal Product Assurance,” Haikal said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, one of Indonesia’s achievements in the halal industry sector this year is ranking second as the Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year at the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) Awards 2026.

“This achievement demonstrates that Indonesia is increasingly recognised globally as a destination capable of providing comfort and certainty of service for Muslim tourists,” he added.

Haikal noted that the availability of halal food and beverages is a key aspect in supporting the competitiveness of Muslim-friendly tourism destinations.

Consequently, BPJPH continues to expand access to halal certification for businesses, particularly Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), through the Free Halal Certification Program (SEHATI).

Through the SEHATI program, BPJPH facilitates free halal certification, covering everything from the application process to the issuance of certificates via the self-declaration scheme, supported by Halal Product Process Assistants (PPH). This program serves as a strategic instrument to increase the number of halal-certified products while strengthening the national halal ecosystem.

Over the past two years, BPJPH has collaborated specifically with the Ministry of Tourism to accelerate halal certification for MSEs in tourism areas and villages. This initiative aims to improve product quality, service standards, and the competitiveness of Indonesian tourism destinations in the global halal tourism market.

To date, BPJPH has issued 31,617 halal certificates for MSEs in tourism villages, spanning 1,372 tourism villages across 37 provinces in Indonesia. These MSE products include food, beverages, souvenir centres, catering, and various businesses supporting the tourism sector, all of which are essential to the tourist experience in Indonesia.

“Through halal certification, MSE development, and cross-sector collaboration, we are optimistic that Indonesia can become the world’s best Muslim-friendly tourism destination and a competitive, sustainable global halal ecosystem hub,” said Haikal.
