BPJPH Accelerates Issuance of 10,000 Halal Certifications per Day for SMEs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that BPJPH is committed to accelerating the issuance of 10,000 halal certificates for business actors, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), per day.
“Out of around 66 million MSMEs in Indonesia, only about 3 million have halal certificates. This is a collective task to speed up the process, so that MSMEs can grow and compete, including with foreign products,” Haikal said in a joint statement with the Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Assessment Institute (LPPOM) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Jakarta on Friday.
Therefore, he believes that stronger synergy is needed between BPJPH, LPPOM, and MUI to provide assurance of peace and comfort for the public in consuming halal products in Indonesia.
He added that close collaboration between the government, religious scholars, and halal certification bodies will create a sense of safety, comfort, and peace for the public in consuming products in Indonesia.
In addition, Haikal also urged the public to ensure that every product consumed is halal.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Chairman of MUI K M Cholil Nafis emphasised that halal is an important part of the lives of the community, especially Muslims, as well as a constitutional right protected by the state.
“Halal is part of our needs, fulfilment of our country’s basic law, as a religious community, halal is not only for Muslims, but for everyone,” Cholil said.
“Therefore, no country or entity from anywhere should enter without complying with our basic law, our constitutional right to consume halal,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of the government’s role in providing legal strength to the edicts of religious scholars, so as to ensure welfare and comfort for the public.
Director of LPPOM Muti Arintawati said that empowering MSMEs must be supported as the backbone of the national economy.
“For us, empowering MSMEs is not limited to issuing halal certificates, but also equipping business actors to level up,” she stated.
She added that LPPOM is committed to continuing to oversee the implementation of MUI’s halal edicts and supporting government policies to ensure public peace in consuming halal products in Indonesia.
