BPI Danantara: Digital Sovereignty to Catalyse Industrial Growth
The Indonesian Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) has assessed that the development of digital infrastructure, such as international submarine cables, serves as a crucial foundation for strengthening national digital sovereignty while simultaneously driving growth across various industrial sectors.
BPI Danantara Indonesia Managing Director for Business-2, Setyanto Hantoro, stated that investment in digital infrastructure is not solely oriented towards commercial profit, but also provides a broader economic impact for Indonesia.
“Investments like the Nongsa Changi Cable (NCC) are highly strategic because they support the creation of Indonesia’s digital sovereignty,” Setyanto said in Batam on Monday.
He made the statement after attending the inauguration of the NCC, which will strengthen digital connectivity between Batam and Singapore via a submarine cable.
“This is not just about a cable between Singapore and Batam, but about digital infrastructure that will drive innovation, competitiveness, and various other industries, such as AI, data centres, manufacturing, and the services sector,” he stated.
Setyanto said Danantara continues to encourage state-owned enterprises, particularly the Telkom Group, to invest in digital infrastructure as it is considered capable of acting as a catalyst for growth in other economic sectors.
“This will ensure that digital infrastructure becomes a catalyst for the growth of other sectors. This investment will boost economic growth, strengthen economic resilience, and simultaneously reinforce Indonesia’s economic sovereignty,” he said.
