BPI becomes strategic partner to realise Jakarta as a cinema city

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Film Board (BPI) has communicated with Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno to become a strategic partner in realising Jakarta as a city of cinema during the celebration of five centuries of Jakarta.

“We have also asked the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD DKI) to help facilitate the cooperation that will be carried out between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Film Board,” said BPI Chairman Fauzan Zidni in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to him, the launch of the Jakarta Film Commission is a strategic step to strengthen the film industry in the capital.

The Jakarta Film Commission, he said, presents various programmes that can drive the growth of the film industry, such as a 50 per cent entertainment tax rebate, discounts on the use of filming locations at assets owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government, and other forms of support.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council Suhud Alynudin supports the various opportunities for cooperation between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Film Board.

Suhud said the development of the film industry is in line with the plan to make Jakarta a city of cinema.

According to BPI data, Jakarta is the region with the largest audience for Indonesian films. Therefore, Suhud continued, strengthening the film ecosystem is very important so that the industry can develop optimally.

In addition to supporting the growth of the creative economy, the film industry also plays a role in strengthening modern culture, especially ahead of the five centuries of Jakarta commemoration.

“Film explains social life and sets an example for society,” said Suhud.

According to him, the development of the film industry will open up space for expression, while creating job opportunities for people who have an interest in and are involved in the world of film.
