Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Badan Pengatur Hilir Minyak dan Gas Bumi (BPH Migas) supports the optimisation and acceleration of the commercialisation of the natural gas transmission pipeline along the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) route, phase 2.

BPH Migas Head Wahyudi Anas stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the operation of the Cisem 2 pipeline integrates the natural gas transmission network from East Java, Central Java, and connects to the existing pipeline in West Java.

According to him, the increased utilisation of natural gas will reduce the consumption of diesel fuel and LPG, particularly for industrial needs and other commercial sectors, thereby making production costs more efficient.

“BPH Migas will soon designate special rights to the business entity appointed as the pipeline network operator,” he said while accompanying Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot in inaugurating the first gas flow (gas in) for the Cisem 2 Batang-Kandang Haur section at the Batang Station, Central Java, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Furthermore, BPH Migas will regulatorily prepare the determination of competitive tariffs (toll fee) for natural gas transportation businesses.

Deputy Minister Yuliot stated that this project is an important step in strengthening the national energy system.

The Cisem 2 pipeline network, he continued, will be able to enhance the reliability of gas transmission while promoting industrial competitiveness, particularly on Java Island, which is the centre of national economic growth.

“The existence of this integrated transmission pipeline network will further enhance our overall economic competitiveness. We are also designing to increase industrial competitiveness, especially for economic zones and special economic zones, particularly in Batang,” Yuliot explained during the inauguration.

This 242-kilometre gas pipeline was constructed over 19 months as part of the government’s strategic programme to strengthen national energy independence and resilience.

“From the gas potential side, Alhamdulillah, we have carried out various exploration activities, as well as production wells, and most of what is produced is gas. With the gas sources available in eastern Indonesia, as well as from Andaman and Natuna, we integrate them into one system, the national gas transmission system,” Yuliot clarified.

This national gas system integration will facilitate the development of industrial zones, growth areas, and commercial zones.

This infrastructure is also believed to accelerate economic growth in the areas traversed by the pipeline network.

The infrastructure is ready to supply gas to consumers.

“At present, there are commitments from several consumers who have expressed interest in utilising the gas supplied through the Cisem pipeline route, such as Balongan Refinery, Cikarang Listrindo Tbk, Pupuk Kujang, and several other industries,” he said.
