BPH Migas Assures No Increase in Subsidised Fuel Prices

This is one of the government’s efforts and commitments amid global political and geopolitical turmoil.

Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) has confirmed that subsidised fuel prices will not increase amid international political and geopolitical turmoil.

“President Prabowo Subianto guarantees that subsidised fuel is available to all members of society, particularly fishermen,” said Fathul Nugroho, a member of the BPH Migas Committee, speaking at a coordination meeting on Updating Data on Fishermen Using Certain Fuel and Specially Assigned Fuel 2026, held in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, on Thursday.

He said BPH Migas has nine committees specifically tasked by the government with handling the stock, procurement and distribution of national fuel, both subsidised and non-subsidised.

The procurement and distribution of subsidised fuel is mandated by Oil and Gas Law Number 22 of 2021, which stipulates that the central government guarantees the distribution of fuel to the public throughout Indonesia.

“The government guarantees the distribution of this fuel, whether in cities, villages and the furthest points in the outermost, remotest and most underdeveloped regions,” he said.

He stated that the prices of subsidised pertalite and diesel have not risen to date. Subsidised pertalite is priced at around Rp10,000 per litre, while biodiesel remains at Rp6,800 per litre.

“This is one of the government’s efforts and commitments amid global political and geopolitical turmoil,” he said.

He noted that world oil prices normally sit at around 60 US dollars per barrel, but from January to June 2026 they have averaged 80 US dollars per barrel, while the state budget assumption is 70 US dollars per barrel.

“With this rise in world oil prices, there is a 10 US dollar per barrel difference that the government must bear to cover this fiscal need,” he added.

He warmly welcomed the Updating Data on Fishermen Using Certain Fuel and Specially Assigned Fuel 2026 initiative organised by the Bangka Belitung provincial government to determine the subsidised fuel quota for the region.

“Each year we set the subsidised fuel quota for provinces, regencies, cities and fuel station distribution agencies for the following year, and we also conduct evaluations every three months,” he said.
