BPH Migas Assures No Increase in Subsidised Fuel Prices

The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) of the Republic of Indonesia has assured that the price of subsidised fuel will not increase amid international political and geopolitical turmoil. “President Prabowo Subianto guarantees that subsidised fuel is available for all citizens, especially fishermen,” said BPH Migas Committee Member Fathul Nugroho during a coordination meeting on updating data for fishermen using specific and assigned fuels for 2026 in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, on Thursday. He stated that BPH Migas has nine committees tasked by the government with overseeing the stock, procurement, and distribution of both subsidised and non-subsidised national fuel. The procurement and distribution of subsidised fuel is mandated by Oil and Gas Law Number 22 of 2021, which stipulates that the central government guarantees fuel distribution to communities throughout the Republic of Indonesia. “The government guarantees this fuel distribution in urban areas, villages, and the most remote points in the outermost, deepest, and most disadvantaged regions,” he said. He confirmed that the prices of subsidised Pertalite and diesel have not increased. The price of subsidised Pertalite is around Rp10,000 per litre, while biodiesel remains at Rp6,800 per litre. “This is one of the government’s efforts and services amidst global political and geopolitical turmoil,” he stated. He noted that the normal world oil price is around US$60 per barrel, but from January to June 2026, the average price has been US$80 per barrel, while the state budget assumption is US$70 per barrel. “With this increase in world oil prices, there is a difference of US$10 per barrel that the government must cover to meet these fiscal needs,” he said. He welcomed the data updating activity for fishermen using specific and assigned fuels for 2026, held by the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government, to determine the subsidised fuel quota for the region. “We determine the subsidised fuel quota for provinces, regencies, cities, and fuel station distributors annually for the upcoming year, and we also conduct evaluations every three months,” he added.
