The Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) has received the ‘Excellence Institution in Empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Palm Oil Enterprises’ award at the Medbun Awards 2026. BPDP was recognised for its significant commitment and role in promoting the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) based on palm oil in Indonesia. Helmi Muhansyah, Head of the Community Cooperation and UMKM Division at BPDP, stated in Jakarta on Saturday that the agency continues to support human resource development, technology adoption, and the acceleration of downstream processing in the Indonesian palm oil industry towards a competitive and sustainable sector. This ensures that UMKM can also produce high-quality products. ‘Technology and industrial downstream processing not only benefit large-scale processing sectors but must also open opportunities for UMKM to produce innovative palm oil-based products with added value and competitiveness,’ he said. As of June 2026, BPDP’s UMKM cooperation activities have reached 52 programmes, collaborating with various stakeholders ranging from farmer associations, universities, and ministries to Islamic boarding schools. The award was presented during the 4th Technology and Talent Palm Oil Mill Indonesia (TPOMI) 2026 event held from 8 to 10 July 2026 in Medan, North Sumatra. TPOMI 2026 serves as a strategic platform bringing together government, academics, industry players and UMKM, practitioners, and technology providers to discuss various innovations and challenges in developing the national palm oil processing industry. Visitors also gained information on various palm oil derivative products and their development potential as part of efforts to encourage entrepreneurship based on plantation commodities, including coconut, palm oil, and cocoa.
