BPDP urges small enterprises to seize business opportunities in palm oil derivative products

Jakarta - The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) is encouraging Micro, Small, and Cooperative Enterprises (UKMK) to develop various palm oil derivative products, even in regions that are not palm oil producers. Helmi Muhansyah, Head of the Community Cooperation and MSMEs Division at BPDP, stated that the palm oil industry offers numerous business opportunities that UKMK players can exploit, including in Magelang, Central Java. He said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday that raw material limitations are no longer a barrier because the national palm oil supply chain is well connected. “There are potentials in palm oil that can be pursued by UKMKs, including in Magelang. Although there is no palm oil in Magelang, the issue of raw material availability is no longer relevant because we are already connected,” he said. “One thing that can support this is when our people’s economy moves. Therefore, we want to inspire UKMKs in Magelang to innovate and build a palm oil-based economy,” he stated at the Magelang UKMK Empowerment Workshop and Good Palm Oil Promotion 2026, themed “Innovation of Palm Oil Derivative Products for UKMK Players”. He emphasised that BPDP supports the development of palm oil-based UKMKs through various programmes, including the Plantation MSME Business Incubation programme, which provides assistance ranging from product development and business capacity strengthening to market access expansion. This support is also realised through training and workshops on palm oil derivative product innovation, such as soap, cosmetics, and crafts, as well as promotional facilitation through various exhibitions and expos, a permanent showcase at the SMESCO Building in Jakarta, and a catalogue of palm oil UKMK products.
