BPDP to Showcase Palm Oil Innovations for Food and Energy at Perisai 2026

The Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) is set to showcase various sustainable palm oil management innovations for the food and energy sectors at the Indonesian Palm Oil Research Week (Perisai) 2026, scheduled for 20-21 July. Mohammad Alfansyah, BPDP Director of Downstream Sector Fund Distribution, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that Perisai 2026, themed ‘Shaping The Palm Oil Ecosystem For A Sustainable Future’, is the largest dissemination event for palm oil research and innovation in Indonesia. ‘Through Perisai, we want to show that palm oil does not only produce vegetable oil or biodiesel. Various research supported by BPDP has resulted in innovations in food, health, renewable energy, biomaterials, and industrial engineering,’ Alfansyah said. He further explained that the event is expected to serve as a collaborative platform for the government, academics, researchers, industry, and the public to strengthen the national palm oil research, innovation, and downstream ecosystem. He assessed that research and innovation are key pillars in enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s palm oil industry. According to him, BPDP has not only supported plantation productivity development but has also encouraged the creation of various innovations that provide added value for the industry and society. ‘This is proof that palm oil has enormous potential to support national development while increasing Indonesia’s competitiveness at the global level,’ Alfansyah remarked. He added that since the implementation of the research funding programme, BPDP has supported hundreds of studies involving various universities and research institutions across Indonesia. The results of this research are continuously encouraged not to stop as scientific publications, but to be downstreamed into technologies and products that provide tangible benefits to the public and the business world. ‘We want to build a strong innovation ecosystem. Therefore, Perisai is not just a scientific forum, but a meeting space for researchers, the government, industry, business actors, and investors so that research results can be widely applied, including by smallholder farmers,’ he said. Perisai 2026 will feature various seminars, discussions, research result exhibitions, business matching, innovation competitions, and collaboration forums involving researchers, academics, business actors, the government, and students. Furthermore, the event will display various research results in six main fields: bioenergy; environment; biomaterials; cultivation and post-harvest; food and health; and social, economic, management, market, and information technology.
