BPDP Showcases Cocoa Downstream Products at JIFHEX 2026
The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) introduced a number of derivative products from plantation commodities at the Jogja International Food & Horeca Expo (JIFHEX) 2026 at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Yogyakarta. The products introduced included processed cocoa and the use of palm oil derivatives in the food and creative industries.
At JIFHEX 2026, which took place on 28–30 August 2026, BPDP presented a booth titled “Palm Discovery Experience: An Edutainment Journey” with an educational and entertainment (edutainment) concept. Visitors could obtain information about BPDP and plantation commodities while participating in games, educational activities, and getting to know SME products derived from palm oil, coconut, and cocoa.
One of the products introduced came from the SME Afa Cokelat from Jember. The SME presented a variety of processed cocoa products utilising palm oil and cocoa butter.
Afa Cokelat’s products have varying cocoa content, ranging from 35 to 100 percent. The products displayed included chocolate bars, pralines, chocolate characters, lollipops, chocolate snacks, cocoa powder, and cigar-shaped chocolate.
Afa Cokelat also introduced products with a three-dimensional (3D) appearance made through a process requiring skill and precision. These products demonstrate the use of cocoa and palm oil in producing processed foods with added value.
In addition to processed cocoa, the SME Smart Batik Indonesia from Yogyakarta introduced the use of palm oil derivatives in the creative industry through the use of palm-based wax for the batik-making process.
BPDP together with Smart Batik Indonesia also held a batik-making and colouring workshop using palm-based wax on Friday (28/8/2026). The activity invited visitors to learn about the batik-making process while trying the use of palm wax.
Meanwhile, a chocolate bucket-making workshop with Afa Cokelat was held on Sunday (30/8/2026). In this activity, visitors could learn about the process of processing cocoa into chocolate products as well as the use of cocoa and palm oil in food products.
BPDP Institutional Cooperation Analyst Muhammad Farouq said BPDP’s participation in JIFHEX 2026 was one way to introduce BPDP’s role and programmes to the public through an interactive approach.
“Through JIFHEX 2026, we want to introduce BPDP’s role more widely while demonstrating the various potentials that can be developed from plantation commodities. Palm oil, coconut, and cocoa not only have value as commodities, but can also be developed into various value-added products through innovation and creativity,” he said in a press release on Monday (31/8/2026).
According to him, the presence of Smart Batik Indonesia and Afa Cokelat also demonstrates the use of derivative products from plantation commodities in different sectors.
“We hope the public can see firsthand that plantation derivative products have a very broad development space. The presence of Afa Cokelat and Smart Batik Indonesia is an example of how innovation can produce creative products while opening up opportunities for business and market development,” he added.
JIFHEX 2026 brought together business players in the food, beverage, hospitality, and SME sectors. The organiser targeted more than 16,000 prospective business partners from the HORECA and retail sectors at the exhibition.
Through its participation in JIFHEX 2026, BPDP introduced the use of derivative products from palm oil, cocoa, and coconut while educating the public about the potential for downstream processing of plantation commodities.
