Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) states that the benefits of palm oil are present in nearly every daily activity of society, yet the role of this plantation commodity in everyday life is often not realised by the public.

“From waking up to going back to sleep, we use palm oil derivative products,” said the representative from the BPDP’s Institutional Cooperation Division, Muhammad Farouq Rosyadi, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He gave examples such as making eggs for breakfast with cooking oil, then showering using toothpaste and shampoo, to commuting to work using public transport like buses that run on palm-based biodiesel.

Therefore, he hopes that society can view palm oil as an important part of the modern life support system. To that end, BPDP together with Olenka has initiated the Sawit on Town (SWOT) event in Bekasi City, West Java, as part of efforts to bring more interactive and grounded palm oil education to the community.

He stated that not many people realise that the oil palm plant has a very broad role and benefits in everyday life.

Palm oil is present in various products used by society from morning until night.

“Through this activity, we want to reach out to the community while introducing the various benefits of palm oil in daily life,” he said.

Meanwhile, Founder of Olenka Kreasi Festival, Edy Nurmansyah, emphasised that the contribution of palm oil is very broad and integrated into various products used by society.

Palm oil derivatives colour 24 hours of daily life in various household and personal care needs, he added, from soap, shampoo, and detergent, to cosmetic products, margarine, bread, creamer, even baby formula milk, all inseparable from the palm oil industry’s contribution.

“This understanding is important so that society no longer sees palm oil merely as an industrial commodity,” he said.

On that occasion, he mentioned that the Sawit on Town activity is a form of support for BPDP, which contributes greatly to the development of the palm oil industry and Indonesia’s economy.

“Moreover, palm oil is present in our daily lives, including as an ingredient in cosmetics,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aesthetic Medical Specialist Doctor Irdawati Novita revealed that the content in palm oil has great potential for skin care.

In addition to being a source of vitamin E, she continued, palm oil contains tocotrienol which is 40 to 60 times more powerful as an antioxidant, even up to 100 times compared to vitamin C.

“That content has effective anti-inflammatory benefits for various skin problems. From spots, irritation, to wounds and acne, the content from palm oil can help the recovery process,” she said.
